Most weekend vacationers from Mumbai and Pune prefer the hill resorts of Mahabaleshwar or the twin attractions of Lonavla and Khandala. But you will still find lots of people, particularly those who are from Thane, who would rather visit Jawhar. Mahabelshwar stands for natural beauty and Lonavla-Khandala for its historic forts and natural wonders. Jawhar on the other hand is best known for its tribal people and Warli paintings. But Jawhar is famous for its natural way and idyllic ways of life too. Spend a couple of lazy days here relaxing under the sun. You are sure to go back refreshed. Jawhar has been a favorite resting place from the times of Chatrapati Shivaji. The great Maratha leader also camped here once when he was traveling to Surat.

You will find dense forests here in Jawhar. The thick greenery and waterfalls is sure to thrill you. The view of the thick jungle behind the waterfalls will definitely charm you. But there is a lot of history in this place too. For instance, you should definitely visit the Bhopatghad Fort and the Jai Vilas Palace. You are sure to love the interiors of the palace’s rooms. Don’t miss it.

The good thing about Jawhar is that, there are far less people visiting this place than Mahabaleshwar or Lonavla-Khandala. You will thus stay close to nature always. If you are somebody who hates crowds, then Jawhar is the right choice for you.

How to reach: If you are taking the train to reach Jawhar, then you can book a pre-paid taxi from the station. There are bus services too that connect Jawhar. Or you can drive your own vehicle to reach this weekend vacation town.
