Malshej, also known as Malshej Ghat, is a quiet and charming hill station in the state of Maharashtra. It is located 700 meters above the sea level. Malshej is actually one of the several mountain passes in the Western Ghats. This hill station is famous because of the many cascading waterfalls, charming mountains and lakes. It is the perfect weekend getaway. Families love Malshej. So do adventurers who are interested in hiking or trekking. If you love unspoiled nature at its very best, then you won’t really find many better places than Malshej in Maharashtra. Malshej is a great choice for nature lovers.

 

Rugged mountains will greet you at Malshej. In fact, you will be traveling through the winding paths of the hills even as you approach this small and quiet hill station. The mornings are particularly nice here. You can listen to the call of the birds in the forests. If you are a bird lover, then perhaps, you can take your binocular and try to locate these avian wonders. Flamingo is of course the star attraction here. Come to Malshej in the mating season, and you can even see the famous mating dance of these pink-legged birds. These birds come all the way from Siberia.

 

You will love the monsoons in Malshej too. The mist of the valley and the greenery is fantastic. With so much rain, the trees really come to life in this season.  This is when the waterfalls roar too.

 

How to reach: Those who are traveling by train should get down at Kalyan. There are tourist taxis that take people from Kalyan to Malshej. There are regular bus services that leave Mumbai and Pune. So you can take the bus as well. it won’t take long for you to drive to Malshej.
