Saputara, Just the Perfect Monsoon Destination

Saputara or the “’Adobe of Serpents” is located in the Dang district of Gujarat. In fact, this is the only hill station of the state. You can visit Saputara throughout the year, and you are sure to have a good time no matter when you go. But probably the best time to visit this small hill station is during the monsoon months. The heat can be scorching in other parts of the state. But Saputara is a pleasant surprise. It’s rolling hills of the Sahyadari, virgin forests, the mist, and the cool air that comes in from the sea makes it a great place to visit. You’ll love it during the monsoon because the trees are at its greenest, and the waterfalls and mountain streams are all full. Saputara is certainly in full bloom when it rains.

Those who have visited Saputara are thrilled naturally, and vouch to come back. Many of them recommend this hill station highly. It is really very close to the big cities of Mumbai, Nashik, Surat and the others. So just pack your bags and leave. A couple of days should be enough at Saputara. Of course, you may want to spend a longer vacation too if you want to unwind. There are some very good accommodation options you can choose from.

Spending an Evening at Saputara

The average day time temperature during the monsoon is 26 degrees. But once the Sun goes down, it drops quite a bit. The average night-time temperature is 18-19 degrees. It can get chilly at times too. Add to that the dense fog and the cool breeze, and you might even have to take out your woolens. So your evenings are very pleasant indeed. You could go out on a leisurely walk to explore Saputara. Or if you want, you may also have a barbeque party with campfire out in the open under the starlit sky. It could be a very romantic and memorable experience.

Saputara Monsoon Festival

This is another attraction during the rainy season. The Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd. or TCGL has plans to organize the Saputara monsoon festival between August 4th and September 1st. 60,000 tourists attended this festival in 2011. This time, the authorities are expecting the number to cross 70,000. Amitabh Bachchan has already featured in a promotional video to promote the festival and tourism in Saputara during the monsoon.
