Dudhsagar

India is lucky to have thousands of waterfalls of all sizes. The Dudhsagar waterfall is certainly one of the more impressive ones, and naturally, it ranks among the most popular falls. In fact, some people are even of the opinion that this is among the most stunning waterfalls in the world. These people are probably right. The fact is that, it is not always about the height or the volume of water. The structure (its shape) of the waterfall, the ambience all around (its location), and the adventures it can provide are reasons too that should be considered. The Dudhsagar secures high marks here.

Visit the falls any time. You will find that most visitors are from Mumbai, Bangalore or Pune. However technically, Dudhsagar is closer to Goa (it is on the Karnataka-Goa border). “Dudhsagar” means “ocean of milk”. The name is apt, because as the water roars down from the cliffs on top, it certainly looks very white. The gushing cascades will surely leave you breathless. You can reach close to the falls and even bath in the pool just below, but it is probably best viewed from a distance. You will be able to see it at its best if you are visiting the falls on any weekend just after the monsoon months. The approach roads are closed during the monsoon.

All around Dudhsagar, you will find a lot of deciduous trees. It is actually located within the Bhagwan Mahavir Wild Life Sanctuary. The trees and the plains are full of chirping birds, busy insects, butterflies and other animals. There is complete peace here. It seems that the Dudhsagar could be the true Eden, here on Earth.
