Sahastrakund

The Sahastrakund waterfall that is close to the Nanded city in Maharashtra, is just a smaller version of the Niagara Falls in the US and Canada. No, this is not an overstatement! There is a lot of truth in this. Just visit this corner of Maharashtra and see the waterfall for yourself, and you will believe this. Another good thing about this waterfall is that, here, you will find water round the year. Far too many waterfalls are monsoon dependant. This means that, if you are visiting in the monsoon, you can get a good view because there is a lot of water. But it becomes little more than a trickle at other times of the year. Not this one. The Sahastrakund falls in Nanded is happening round the year, no matter what the season.

The Sahastrakund waterfall is on the Banganga River. It jumps down two or three times here on its continuing journey to reach the Godavari River below. The rock patterns here are very interesting. When wet, the black rock seems like metal. You should definitely see the Sahastrakund waterfall. But be careful. You should not come too close, because you are sure to get wet if you do. Remember, the water does come down with a lot of force. The Banganga River is wide too at this place, and this is what makes the Sahastrakund waterfall appear so impressive.

A trip to the Sahastrakund waterfall is just right for any weekend. You can include some other attractions too in the area. For instance, there is the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve to the East and the Sriramsagar Reservoir in the South. You can also visit Aurangabad or Wardha if you have some time.

How to reach: The Sahastrakund waterfall is located quite far away from Mumbai and Pune. So it would be better if you take the train. Get down at the Nanded railway station. The waterfall is just 5 kilometers from here. You can take an auto rickshaw from here.

There are a few resorts in Sahastrakund and a few home stays in Sahastrakund too. But it would be better to visit this place on a weekend trip from Nagpur or Hyderabad.
