Dahanu and Bordi – 17 Kilometers of Sun, Sand and Sea

Dahanu and Bordi are two beaches in the Thane district of Maharashtra. These two are actually part of a sandy stretch that extends for 17 kilometers. The entire stretch is extremely beautiful, and it is completely safe as well. The water never goes below 400 meters. If you take the car, then it will take you about half an hour to cover the distance. Both Dahanu and Bordi are extremely uncluttered and picturesque. Even though the beaches are connected to the outside world and are close to Thane, but they are still pristine and refreshing. The calm and natural ambience is sure to please you.

Dahanu and the Zoroastrians

This region of the state was barren once. That changed with the arrival of the Irani settlers. Today it has become a Mecca of the Zoroastrians. You will find many beautiful houses here and magnificent temples too. The sacred fire of the Zoroastrians is housed in one of these. The locals believe that this sacred fire has been kept alive for more than the last one thousand years. It is this Persian and Iranian culture, along with the beauty of the place that makes it so interesting. A lot of tourists come here to offer their prayers and seek miracles. There are those who visit for the architecture. And of course there are nature lovers as well who want to spend time in the beaches of Dahanu and Bordi.

The Chickoo Plantations

Dahanu is also famous because its “chickoos”. In fact, all over the region you will find many fruit orchards, including some of the finest chickoo orchards in the country. You can spend some time in the orchards and even visit the factory to see how the fruits are collected, stored, packaged and shipped.

The Best Time to Visit These Twin Beaches

It can become quite warm during the summer months. But it always becomes pleasant in the late afternoon because of the constant breeze coming in from the sea. The monsoon is a good time to visit. The rain makes everything look greener. But perhaps the best season for visiting Dahanu and Bordi is the winter. You could laze around the beach and even get sunbathe for as long as you like. There will be very few people bothering you.
