MTDC’s Plans to Turn Mithbav into a Popular Beach Resort

About a year back, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation or the MTDC had announced that it plans to develop the Mithbav beach in Sindhudurg. MTDC announced that they will be building roads, resorts and other infrastructure here on public-private partnerships on revenue-sharing model. There were plans of building a golf course, business center, an international convention center, and a resort within a beautiful mango orchard, because of the popularity of Devgad mangoes. The corporation had set aside a budget of 22 crores for this. Private business would eventually become interested here, with the availability of better facilities and developing infrastructure.

India is lucky to have a big coastline. There are innumerable beach resorts dotting the landscape. The state of Maharashtra is no exception to this. There are indeed many beautiful beaches in the state. But there is certainly potential in developing a new one, particularly one that is as stunning as Mithbav. Its white sandy beach, clear blue sea, the greenery all around, and peaceful ambience is sure to be a big draw for the city crowd who want to escape from the drudgery for a few days.

Potential of Mithbav

Mithbav certainly has a lot of potential. Though there are many beach resorts, but the fact is that, most of them tend to become very crowded, particularly during the weekend, as people become more aware of them. It is the same story everywhere. Initially it is beautiful and pristine. But soon enough, more hotels and resorts start to come up with increased popularity. There are street vendors selling foods and other things. And in about a decade, it becomes just another crowded destination, where there’s no peace and solitude, and hardly any nature. It has lost its original character and charm. In other words, it is not the place that made it popular initially. This is when it begins to lose its popularity.

The crowd then begins to search for a new destination. And the same story repeats itself.

That’s why places such as Mithbav always have potential. Nature lovers, seeking peace and a few days of relaxation will always be interested in a stunning beach resort that promises everything they are looking for. It’s just that MTDC has to ensure that the construction regulations and cap is strictly adhered to. The ecologic balance has to be maintained to ensure that places such as Mithbav are not commercially exploited so much that they turn into disasters in a decade or so.
