Discover Mhaismal – The Scenic Side of Aurangabad

Most people who arrive at the Aurangabad railway station or airport are on their way to the Ajanta and Ellora caves, which have become world famous because of their rock art. However most of them do notice the beautiful natural beauty of the region as well. The rugged terrain, valleys, and lush hills attract many. But almost everybody moves on, because their destination is elsewhere.

Perhaps you want to do it differently. Why not head to Mhaismal for its natural beauty? You will definitely not be disappointed. There’s everything here you can hope to find in a hill station in Maharashtra.

All You Must Know About Mhaismal

Mhaismal is located just 39 kilometers from Aurangabad. This hill station, at 1067 meters, is 12 kilometers from the small town of Khuldabad. Buses ply regularly from Aurangabad, and so, you will be able to reach Mhaismal easily. Or you can hire a car as well if you so prefer. This is a small hill station where life has stood still for long. The people are nice and relaxed. Originally it was a small village by the name of Maheshmal. It is not known how the name changed to Mhaismal. But the village, to this day, retains its old charm and ambience.

It could be a perfect getaway if you want to spend a few days within nature. There are hardly any visitors as everybody heads to Ajanta and Ellora. This means, you might have the entire hill station to yourself if you are lucky. At the most you will find people stopping over for a cup of coffee or some cold drinks on their way to the caves. If you are visiting during the winter, then you may come across small groups of locals enjoying their picnic. Avoid them if you want to. There are plenty of nooks and corners here where you will be absolutely alone with the trees and birds. The monsoon is a particularly good time to visit Mhaismal because of the greenery all around.

One good idea would be to mix nature with history and art. Why not visit the caves as Mhaismal is so close to the world famous Ajanta and Ellora? So spend a couple of days at Mhaismal, and visit these caves to appreciate the culture and history of ancient India.

You can also visit the Devgiri Fort and the Grishneshwar Temple. There’s a lake here as well, with the Balaji temple beside it. The temple here is a replica of the one at Tirupati.
