Bor Wildlife Sanctuary

Wildlife Sanctuaries usually hold fewer animals as compared to their elder brothers, namely, the National Parks. This is true both in the number of animals and the range of species found. It is however different with the Bor Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is located in the foothills of the Satpura range in Maharashtrat. Bor Wildlife Sanctuary is quite a special one really, and for one very good reason too. This sanctuary works as a corridor between the Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve and the Pench Tiger Reserve. Some wildlife experts believe that the King (the Royal Bengal Tiger) prefers this area more than others. That’s a huge reason for visiting the Bor Wildlife Sanctuary.

According to 2010-11 tiger estimation report, there are 24 tigers in the Pench/Bor forestscape. The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) estimated that there are 12 tigers within the sanctuary. The number was further increased to 15 with the sighting of three new cubs in March 2011. But it’s not just the tiger that you will find here. The Bor Wildlife Sanctuary is home to chitals, sambars, bisons, panthers, wild boars, wild dogs, beers, monkeys and much more. There are hundreds of species of insects and butterflies that complete the ensemble. The plant species are rich too. It is a complete eco system in itself. It has been estimated that the tigers are in good health here because of the presence of so many species of animals. The Bor Wildlife Sanctuary is one happy story of India.
