Anjaneri Fort

Located in the picturesque hilly terrain of Anjaneri Hills, which is a part of the Sahyadri Range, the Anjaneri fort is famous for its mythological significance. According to folklore, Devi Anjani, the wife of Pavan, the Hindu God of Wind, gave birth to Lord Hanuman on or around this fort during prehistoric days.   There are two temples of Anjani Mata inside the fort, one larger than the other apart. There is also a cave called “Seeta Cave”. The fort itself has been named after the mother of Lord Hanuman.

Situated in the Trimbakeshwar region near the famed city of Nasik at a considerable height (4264 ft), the Anjaneri fort is considered to be one of the important forts in area. The region is spiritually important too.

Trek to the Anjaneri fort is a huge favorite among people who love adventure. The fort is located on top of the Anjaneri hill, a massive grass-topped elevation. And so, some basic mountain climbing experience is needed. But don’t worry if you have not done it before. You can pick up the skills soon enough. It is not a technical climb. Take out your rock climbing gear and start climbing the hill till you reach a gully. Thereafter you may have to negotiate boulders, some small and others big enough. As you reach a higher plateau, take the left track which leads to the Seeta Gumpha. Leave that and take the right track to climb further up till you reach the upper plateau and the fort.

From here you can have a wonderful view of the surrounding hills and green foliage strewn far below. The trek will take you about 3 hours.
